The Primetime Emmy Awards aired last night on NBC from the Staples Center in Los Angeles. As an avid television watcher, I enjoyed seeing so many phenomenal shows, actors, producers, and writers receive the ultimate recognition of their industry. Of course, my main focus was on the fashion, which was on a much higher level than last year’s awards!
I thoroughly enjoyed the trends and some of the outliers on the red carpet, so here are my top five best dressed picks of the night!#5 – LENA HEADEY
I had to put Lena Headey in my top five for sticking with what she knows: black. True to her manipulative character on the HBO hit series Game of Thrones, Lena is a natural at bringing dark and twisted realness to the red carpet. I love this Rubin Singer dress because of its structure – the angular hem and neckline create a fascinating silhouette unlike anything else that was seen on the carpet. Even though it was scorching hot in Los Angeles yesterday, black is always fashionable!

#4 – JANUARY JONES
Mad Men heartthrob January Jones is an undisputed favorite when it comes to red carpet fashion. She is known for her timeless beauty and a classic, elegant style that exudes Hollywood glamour. I loved her in this Prabal Gurung dress because, quite simply, the fabric is stunning. I love the raised hemline in the front and the extravagant flair of the train, but the tactile imagery of this dress screamed high fashion. Red was a MAJOR color on the carpet last night, but this was the most impressive choice of the bunch to me.

#3 – KERRY WASHINGTON
It brings me great pleasure to have Kerry Washington back on my best dressed list. After some previous red carpet failures since her pregnancy, the Scandal star finally got it right in this Prada number. First of all, she was one of a kind in that stunning orange color that looked incredible on her skin tone. I also loved the delicate stitching on the dress and even the mysterious sequined slip underneath it, which didn’t downplay the sexy slit at all. Her hair was right, her color-blocking makeup was risky, and I’m glad to say that Ms. Washington is back in my fashion good graces!

#2 – LIZZY CAPLAN
I was pleasantly surprised to see Lizzy Caplan giving such an enchanting look on the red carpet! The star of Showtime’s Masters of Sex has a unique style, but is not exactly notorious for jaw-dropping fashion choices. However, last night changed my perception of her forever in this Donna Karan Atelier gown. As a nominee for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, she showed up exactly how you’re supposed to: like a superstar. Her dress delivered the ultimate vision of Hollywood glamour from the classic, criss-cross neckline to the subtle, sexy cutouts, to the fabulous, ombré train. Although she was at a television awards show, Lizzy looked like a movie star!

#1 – KEKE PALMER
Last, but certainly not least, is my absolute best dressed of the night: Keke Palmer!! I literally could not believe my eyes when the 21-year old actress, who is guest starring on this season Masters of Sex, arrived on the red carpet in this Rubin Singer creation. When you talk about giving a MOMENT, this is the premier example. First of all, royal blue was the perfect color choice, as was her pulled back hair to let her face and the dress shine. The top of the dress had a sexy, sophisticated structure and her waist was appropriately cinched to show off such an amazing figure. Even though the mermaid fishtail created a silhouette that is seen very often, this was still my absolute favorite and most fabulous look of the evening. Not to mention, she wasn’t even a nominee and she STILL shut the red carpet down! You have to respect that! Go Keke!!
