If you’re a fan of ABC’s addictive hit show Scandal, then you can’t help but notice the show’s special attention to the fashions. There is nothing like watching Olivia Pope strut down a hallway in a structured floor length gown or a chic trench coat! Fashion enthusiasts have quickly become attracted to the wardrobe just as much as the suspenseful plot lines.
As a result, fans can now shop looks inspired directly by the show’s main character!Scandal costume designer Lyn Paolo, Kerry Washington, and ABC have collaborated with retail chain The Limited on an exclusive collection directly inspired by Washington’s role as Olivia Pope. Her signature looks, seen in the first preview sketch above, feature nude palettes and very feminine silhouettes. The show previously collaborated on a fashion window for Saks Fifth Avenue, inspired by a lot of high-end pieces that Paolo pulls for the show from designers like Valentino and Armani. Now, collaborating with The Limited allows them to create a more affordable line, reportedly ranging from $49 to $250.
As a fashion aficionado and red carpet superstar, Kerry Washington is directly involved with the design of the collection. This will definitely be one of the most iconic roles of her career and it’s amazing that it also allows her to venture into fashion design. Even though I would say Kerry and Olivia have pretty different personal styles, Scandal is setting yet another precedent for the impact that television characters can have on their audience. Fans may want to dress like Kerry Washington, but they probably want to dress like Olivia just as much.
You can shop the collection in The Limited stores and online in September, in conjunction with the season four premiere of Scandal.
