I have been a fan of French dancer and choreographer Yanis Marshall for quite some time now. Ever since I discovered his uniquely fabulous style of movement, I admired his ability to change facings, incorporate technical training, and, of course, dance in HIGH HEELS! The best part of his fearless use of stilettos is that he’s not the only male who can dance in them.
The special trio of himself, Mehdi Mamine, and Arnaud Boursain are featured in most of the Youtube videos from his classes and they even advanced on the popular competition show Britain’s Got Talent. Yanis is just recently getting some viral attention, but I’ve been familiar with his body of work for a while and this is definitely one of my favorite pieces.This routine is to Lady Gaga’s “Donatella”, an ode to the iconic head of the house of Versace. It is one of my favorite tracks off of her latest album ARTPOP because it’s uptempo and high energy with a thumping bass line. Marshall’s choreography style is perfect for the track, which is all about vanity, confidence, and attitude! I love his choreography because it’s difficult to pick up without heels, which makes his talent even more special.
